JULY 29th, 2010

Columbia, S.C. – August begins a new era in the Main St/FOM Series events. First Thursdays on Main is the new moniker for a larger, more comprehensive collection of events, specials, and happenings on Main St.

The August edition of the FOM Series promises to be one of the favorite (and most anticipated) shows so far. We have been able to get not one Hill, but two Hills on Main St. That is right Lyon and Jenny Mae Hill will both be in house with their individual works of art as well as with a new joint venture. There will also be some performances of Lyon’s puppetry and more slam poetry from the artists in VerseWorks (this month’s lineup consists of Kendal Turner, Chris McCormick, and Anna Howard).

The Columbia Museum of Art’s Museum Shop will be open late and featuring the works of local artist Alicia Leeke.

Gotham Bagel will be featuring the “scat” talents of Bob and Sarah Williams.

Anastasia & Friends will be hosting the closing reception of a group exhibition with Mary Ann Haven, John Monteith, Ric Standridge and Anastasia Chernoff. The show will feature paintings, sculpture and mixed media from the June opening and some new surprises, as well.

S&S Art Supply (along with Izms of Art) will be presenting “Future Shock” featuring the art works of Mustafa and Cedric Umoja of Izms of Art , as well as John Hairston Jr. of All City Studios. There will be live performances from Fat Rat Da Czar and Shekeese the Beast, Trublklef and Miles Franco, along with DJ B of Izms of Art.

Villa Tronco has moved its popular Opera Night to coincide with the First Thursdays.

Cellar on the Greene will be on hand in both Frame of Mind and Anastasia & Friends, providing a wonderful assortment of wines for tasting.

Frame of Mind is open Monday 10am to 2 pm and Tuesday through Friday 10 am to 6 pm, and is located at 1520 Main Street across from the Art Museum in Columbia, South Carolina.
